dc.description.abstract This study aimed at investigating the teaching of reading skill. The researcher's main interest is to look into this problem. The subjects were the learners of English language at secondary level schools in Port Sudan Town. The researcher provided a number of factors that caused the problems then suggested a group of solutions to solve it. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method focusing on the reading skills. Moreover, the researcher used the descriptive method which describes the problem before dealing with it and also used the analytical method to analyze the data and figures which the researcher used in the study. Tools used in the study were a questionnaire to students both males and females and a written interview for teachers who were teaching in these schools. The researcher noticed that students who made mistakes while they were reading a passage of English, they were afraid of the teacher's correction. He also noticed absence of the different activities which cause difficulty that hinders students in reading English well. Finally, he observed that activities besides materials are very important for readers and learners to improve the reading skill. The researcher suggested a plan to solve the problems to achieve the aims of the study. The most important recommendations of the study were: exchange experiences of the teachers with each other, give students self-confidence to acquire English language, find out students' abilities to overcome the difficulties that hinder their reading English well. The results of data analysis pickup the research feedback which indicates that more than (80%) reached the goal. en_US
