dc.description.abstract The study area lies in NE Sudan which represents the northwestern border of Gebeit terrain and junctions of the northern extension of Hamisana Shear Zone trending N-S and Onib-Sol Hamid Suture which trending generally NE. The area is a part of the Red Sea Hills which is considered to be the western extension of Pan-African-Nubian Shield. This study represents comprehensive investigations in different aspects of geology including geological mapping, structural and tectonic setting. Hence, the main objective of the study is to understand the structural and tectonic setting. As per the understanding gained on the structural & tectonic setting of this area, formation of foliation & thrusting (D1) represents the first episode followed by (D2) that involved strong collision of Haya and Gebeit terrains. This event has resulted in the development of tight upright and overturned small scale (F1) folds. This development is attributable to the early NE-SW compressional stress regime. The collision of Haya & Gebeit terrains with Gabgaba terrain marks the second episode of tectonic activity (D3). Early (F2) folds, related (S2) cleavages and thrust faults were affected by a series of open (F3) folds & crenulations during this episode of deformation. Open folds with E-W axis and reactivation of the NE-SW shear zone represents the third episode of tectonic activity. Mineralized quartz veins were emplaced as a result of trans current deformation and slip reactivation of the early NE-ENE trending faults due to shearing (D4). The deformation phase (D5) is associated with the formation of NNW-SSE strike-slip faults through the axial planes of (D3) folding. The target area demonstrate deformation phases D2 folding and D4 shearing that appear to responsible for the emplacement of mineralized quartz veins. en_US
