Sero-Prevalence and Risk Factors of Hepatitis C Virus among Yemeni Dental Clinic Workers Abbas

Abstract: The Dental clinic workers (DCWs) in Yemen have an additional risk of getting infected with
hepatitis C virus (HCV) from their work place and till now there is no study in prevalence of
HCV infection and associated risk factors among DCWs. The purposes of this survey were to
evaluate what proportion of dentists and dental assistants had serological evidence of current
or previous HCV infection. Data were acquired from a cross sectional survey conducted
among DCWs in 2014 at the Faculty of Dentistry, Sana’a University, in Sana›a city. Enzymelinked
Immunosorbant assay (ELISA) was used to test sera for HCV antibodies. The study
included 246 dentists and 263 dental assistants; the sero-prevalence of current HCV infection
was 1.6%. In conclusion, the prevalence of HCV infection was high among Yemeni DCWs
and exposure to potentially infectious body fluids was high which might lead to high rate of
transmit HCV to DCWs, therefore ensures a safer work environment is important in control
and prevention of HCV in DCWs in Yemen.

An Investigation into University Students’ Errors in Tenses in their Written Production

Title: An Investigation into University Students’ Errors in Tenses in their Written Production
Authors: Zeinab Al-atta Saeed; Abdallah Yassin
Abstract: The study aimed to investigate university student’s errors in English tenses, in their written
production. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method and the Statistical Program
for Data Analysis. Results of the study indicated that university students who were chosen for
this study, we found to be facing a real problem, when writing English tenses. This problem
affected their performance. The study showed also that the greatest numbers of errors were
found to be due to omission of verbs and verbs to be. Moreover, the results revealed that the
reason behind the student’s errors was a linguistic cause related to the interference of first
language, and the target language. The researcher recommended that further research should
be carried out, in the areas of tenses, as the data of the analysis indicated that.

Title: Causes of Silicification, Tension Joints and Different Degrees and Directions of Dips of Nubian Sandstones Outcrops in Khartoum State Omer
Authors: Omer Elbadri; Elgizouli Ahmed Hamid
Abstract: Nubian Sandstone outcrops north of Khartoum State are arenaceous with fossils and
horizontal, while in central and south are ferruginous, argillaceous, dipping in different
directions, with tension joints and no fossils. Field work targeted all outcrops in the study
area; methods include description, measurements, and petrographic analysis. The present
work referred silicification and Petrified wood formed as a result of hydrothermal alteration
by silica derived from adjacent basement complex.Different directions of dips and tension
joints is attributed to intrusion of Late Tertiary basaltic rocks in central area.

Assessment of Plasma Troponin I, Total Creatine Kinase and Creatine Kinase -MB as Biomarkers for Acute Coronary Syndrome in El-Obied City

Title: Assessment of Plasma Troponin I, Total Creatine Kinase and Creatine Kinase -MB as Biomarkers for Acute Coronary Syndrome in El-Obied City
Authors: Akram Hamed Awad Alla Elsukar1; Waleed Hajmusa Elttahir2; Marwa Ahmed Elzain Abdalla3
Abstract: Acute coronary syndrome is one of the world’s major killers and has a high morbidity and mortality
rates. The aim of this study to assess the role of different markers used in the diagnosis of acute
coronary syndrome. Descriptive case - control study conducted during the period from October 2015
to August 2016 to determine the plasma levels of total creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase – MB
(CK-MB) and troponin I as diagnostic markers for acute coronary syndrome. Statistical package for
social science (SPSS version 17) computer software was used for data analysis. The result of this study
showed significant high level of CK and CK-MB of the test group when compared with control group
and significant elevated means of plasma levels of total CK and CK-MB of myocardial infarction
patients when compared with unstable angina within test group. The result of this study also revealed
that; the plasma troponin I is positive in myocardial infarction when compared with unstable angina
in test group. Conclusion: Qualitative assessment of plasma level of cardiac troponin and measuring
of the plasma activity of total CK and CK-MB are helpful markers for diagnosis of patients with acute
coronary syndrome.
