The effect of using short stories in improving English Foreign Language Learners’ Vocabulary

Abstract

The aim of conducting this research is to identify The Effect of Using Short Stories in improving English Foreign Language at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Red Sea University. The study has adopted the descriptive analytical approach. The sample has been 50 students. A questionnaire has been designed for the students as a tool for collecting data. The data has been analyzed using the SPSS program. The research comes out with some findings, the most important one is: short stories are considered one of the most important strategies that effect learners to learn vocabulary. The use of the short stories increases learners’ vocabulary .moreover , short story considered one of the most important sources that contribute to build learners’ vocabulary .Based on the findings, the research recommends the following: learners should read short stories to learn different types of vocabulary. Learners should focus on the short stories in order to build their vocabulary.

هدفت الدراسة الى التعرف عاى اثر استخدام القصص القصيرة في اكتساب و تحسين المفردات اللغوية في كلية الاداب و العلوم الانسانية جامعة البحر الاحمر , استخدمت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي و كانت عينة الدراسة مكونة من خمسين طالبا و طالبة و تم تصميم اداءة الاستبانة كادداة لجمع البيانات ، وتم التحليل باستخدام برنامج الححزم الاحصائي للعلوم الاجتماعية SPSS. توصلت الدراسة الى بعض النتائج، اهمها، تعتبر القصص القصيرة من اهم الطرق التي توثر في اكتساب المفردة . استخدام الروايات القصيرة يذيد من المفردة اضافة الى ذلك الروايات القصيرة مصدر مهم ومساعد لبناء المفردة لدى الطلاب بناءا على هذه النتائج يوصي الباحث الاتي :على الطلاب قراءة الروايات القصيرة حتى تمكنهم من التعرف على المفردات مختلفة و كما على الطلاب التركيز على قراءة الروايات القصيرة لبناء المفردات .
