Errors thatEncountered by English Language Learners (ELL) in Using Adverbs in their Correct Positions (Case study – secondary schools – port Sudan)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the students use adverbs and identify the errors. The researcher followed the historical approach in the literature review and the descriptive analytical method to deal with the data gathered for the research from community sample teachers both male and female. The instrument that used in the research was questionnaire for Secondary school teachers. The researcher analyzed the data that gathered by percentage. The study reached to several findings some of them are the followings: Most Sudanese students have low experiences in using adverbs, they have low background of knowledge of adverbs, they have lack of knowledge of forms of and their proper position and they don't care about studying of adverbs. The study recommendedabout the followings: Adverbs should not be taught only through lecturers but also through demonstration and discussion method, they should be taught through confirmedand warning statements to gain the students’ attention, they should be studied in initial classes, teachers should facilitatethe materials in way that helps students and students must give all their attentions to help teachers in understanding. The results of the research indicate that most of the students are unable to use adverbs in their correct positions.

مستخلص الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تحليل كيفية استخدام الطلاب للظروف ، اتبع الباحث النهج التاريخي في عرض الدراسات السابقة والنهج الوصفي في تحليل البيانات التي تم جمعها للبحثلعينة من المعلمين والمعلمات . الوسيلة التي تم استخدامها للبحث كانت عبارة عن استبيان وزعت على معلمين المدارس الثانوية. قام الباحث بتحليل البيانات بالنسبة المئوية. و توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج بعضاً منها كما يلى: معظمالطلاب السودانيين يفتقرون إلى الخبرة فى استخدامالظروف، قلة الخلفية المعرفية فى استخدامات الظروف، افتقارهم إلى تكوين الظروف وكيفية استخدامها فى أماكنها المناسبة وعدم اهتمامهم بدراسة الظروف. أوصت الدراسة بالآتي: لا ينبغي فقط تدريس الظروف عبر المحاضرات بل من خلال الشرح والمناقشات، كما ينبغي أن يدرس من خلال تعابير تأكيدية و تحذيرية للفت انتباه الطلاب ، و ان تدرس في الفصول الأولية، على المعلمين تسهيل عملية التدريس لمساعدة الطلاب و على الطلاب الاهتمامبمتابعةالمعلمين لتسهيل عملية الفهم و الدراسة. وتشير نتائج البحث إلى أن معظم الطلاب غير قادرين على استخدام الظروف والأحوال فى أماكنها المناسبة.
