Promoting Reading Skills for EFL Learners ,Through the Use of Short Stories (A case study : Basic Schools _ Port Sudan )

Abstract

The study addressed the subject of role of short stories in improving reading skill for EFL learners in basic levels and aimed at shed light on the different aspects on the topic. The study followed the descriptive analytical approach and also the historical approach in the literature review, besides the statistical approach to analyse the data collected from community sample. The study reached to several results, most of them are the following: Reading skill can be developed through teaching short stories, short stories are enjoyable material, teaching short stories develop the language aspects and thinking skills can be developed through teaching short stories. Based on the above results, the study recommends the following : Teachers have to redouble their intense of short stories lessons to their pupils, presenting short stories lessons should be in enjoyable way,teachers have to increase their effort to develop short stories subject to their pupils and Methodologies have to reconsideration on the type of short stories to be adopted with the pupils' level of aware.

المستخلص : تناولت الدراسة موضوع دور القصص القصيرة في تحسين مهارة القراءة لدى متعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في مرحلة الأساس ، هدفت على إلقاء الضوء على الجوانب المختلفة للموضوع. اتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وكذلك التاريخي في عرض الموضوع ، بجانب الاحصائي لتحليل بيانات الدراسة التي تم تجميعها من عينة الدراسة. توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج منها: يمكن تحسين مهارة القراءة من خلال تدريس القصص القصيرة ، القصص القصيرة مادة ممتعة ، تدريس القصص القصيرة يطور الجوانب اللغوية ، يمكن تطوير مهارة التكفير من خلال تدريس القصص القصيرة. بناء على النتائج المذكورة أعلاه ، توصي الدراسة بما يلي: يجب على المعلمين التكثيف من دروس القصص القصيرة لتلاميذهم ، يجب ان يتم تدريس القصص القصيرة بطريقة ممتعة ، يجب على المعلمين مضاعفة جهودهم لتطوير القصص القصيرة ويجب على علماء المنهج إعادة النظر في نوع القصص القصيرة التي ستبنى على مستوى وعي التلاميذ.
