Investigating Deficiency of Speaking Skills among EFL secondary School Learners “Learners’ Perception” A case study of Port Sudan Locality

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the deficiency of English speaking skill among students of secondary schools in Port Sudan locality ”Learners’ Perception”. The researcher provided a number of factors that cause the deficiency, then set out a group of suggestions to deal with it. The study consists of five chapters: chapter one acted as an introductory chapter, in it the researcher reflected the main factors of the problem. Through other chapters the researcher moves to investigate the causes of the problem then move to solve it. The researcher used the descriptive methodology of research as well as experimental supported with qualitative and quantitative approach. The tools used in the study are a questionnaire to ninety one students both males and females and a written interview for eleven teachers who are teaching them as a sample of research population. The researcher discussed and analyzed the results revealed by the students' and teachers' responses. After that, the researcher moved to conclude the study by presenting the findings of the study such as most of students tried to speak English but they failed because of many reasons such as difficulty in pronouncing different English words, the methods of learning speaking skills are not convincing and enough to achieve the purpose of learning, the materials provided by the curriculum and learning activities were not sufficient to enable students to learn English language. Hence according to these findings, the researcher suggested a plan that help in solving these problems to achieve the goal of the study.

مستخلص هدفت هذه الدراسة الي التحقيق في صعوبة المخاطبة باللغة الانجليزية وسط طلاب المدارس الثانوية فى محلية بورتسودان (من وجهة نظر الطلاب) . حيث قام الباحث بحصر الاسباب التي أدت الي هذه الصعوبة ومن ثم قدم المقترحات لمعالجتها. تتكون هذه الدراسة من خمس فصول : حيث مثل الفصل الاول كمقدمة عكس فيه الباحث مشكلة البحث و أهميته فضلا عن الافتراضات وحدود البحث . ومن خلال الفصول الاخري تحرك الباحث لمعالجة مشكلة البحث . استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي التحليلي فضلا عن التجريبي المدعوم بالاسلوب الكمي والكيفي واختار أداة الاستبيان للطلاب لعدد واحد وتسعون طالب وطالبة وكذلك أداة المقابلة لمعلميهم لعدد أحد عشرة معلم . كما قام الباحث بتحليل ومناقشة البيانات التي تم جمعها من عينة البحث .من أهم النتائج التي تم التوصل لها : يقوم عدد مقدر من الطلاب بمحاولة التحدث باللغة الانجليزية ولكنهم يفشلون في ذلك لعدة أسباب منها : صعوبة نطق بعض الكلمات الانجليزية وضعف منهج تعليم المخاطبة فضلا عن انعدام مساعدات التعليم ووسائل الايضاع وقلة النشاطات المصاحبة والزمن المخصص لها . في الختام قام الباحث بتقديم خطة لمعالجة مشكلة البحث من خلال التركيز علي الطلاب وتوجيهمم باهمية الاهتمام برفع قدراتهم في المخاطبة باللغة الانجليزية بكل الوسائل المتاحة وزيادة الانشطة المصاحبة و الزمن المخصص لها فضلا عن تشجيع الطلاب لممارسة المخاطبة داخل وخارج قاعات الدراسة .
